When is the Inman aligner used to deal with orthodontic problems?

Cliftonville Dental offer a range of orthodontic treatment including the Inman Aligner. But what is it used to treat?

What is an Inman aligner?

The Inman aligner is a removable appliance, designed to deal with less complex orthodontic issues, for example, aligning your front teeth. The aligner can be used as a standalone solution but a popular use is also to straighten teeth before bonding or veneers. This is a custom solution which means the aligner is made with your exact tooth measurements and structure in mind.

How does the Inman aligner work to straighten my teeth?

The aligner possesses 2 nickel titanium coil springs that apply pressure to the back of the teeth that are in need of realignment. A bar that is placed across your front teeth is responsible for reversing the same pressure and the forces work to push the teeth together and in turn realign them. Although there are gentle forces at work, they are active over a wide range of movement, which is what is responsible for the aligner treating problems so quickly.

What is involved during the course of treatment and procedure?

You will be invited to attend an initial consultation so that your orthodontist can ascertain if this is the right way forward for you. You will have the chance to ask any question you may have and discuss you expectations of treatment. Following this we will take impressions of your teeth so that your custom made aligner can be created. These impressions will be sent over to the dental lab where the aligner is made up and sent back to us. Once created, we can fit the aligner and the treatment period can begin. Your dentist will explain that the aligners need to be worn between 16-20 hours per day and you will need to visit us every 2-3 weeks so that we can track your progress.

Round-up of the benefits of the Inman aligner

  • Short treatment period – as the aligner is correcting a less fundamental orthodontic problem, treatment time is dramatically reduced to between 6-16 weeks depending on the result you are looking for.
  • Less invasive – Unlike other type of appliance, you do not have to wear it for 24 hours a day.
  • Removable – you can still enjoy the foods you love as the appliance is removable.
  • Gentle pressure – therefore not pain associated with the treatment.
