Are you unhappy with your smile? Perhaps you have damaged, chipped, discoloured or decayed teeth and want to restore your desire to smile? Veneers are a custom treatment that can totally transform your smile and in turn, your facial aesthetic. There are some common misconceptions about veneers that circulate – we thought we’d clear some of these up….
‘The process is painlful’
You will be given a local anaesthetic to prevent any pain and discomfort during the procedure.
‘Veneers are only used for the ‘social six’: your visible front teeth’
Whilst it is most common for patients to choose veneers for the front teeth that others see when they smile, the treatment can be used for lower teeth and premolars.
‘The whole tooth needs to be etched down before the veneers can be placed’
Your tooth is likely to need some re-shaping as the veneers is placed over the top of your existing tooth (it will appear too thick otherwise, protruding over your other teeth in thickness). However, this will be very minimal and we will always aim to preserve as much of the tooth as possible.
‘Veneers are white, conspicuous and synthetic-looking’
Here at Cliftonville, your veneers are custom made to match the shade of your existing teeth and we aim for them to blend in as much as possible. You will be able to speak to your dentist about your expectations of treatment and select a shade with them before treatment begins.
Many patients choose to have veneers in conjunction with tooth whitening – this is a more cost effective solution than opting for all veneers if you are on a budget. Veneers can also be part of a smile makeover which is a bundle of more than 1 cosmetic procedure, tailored to the patient’s needs. Your dentist here at Cliftonville can advise you on the types of treatment that will best match your expectations.
