Do you have a special occasion creeping up on you? Are you worried about not looking your best? Don’t worry – short-term orthodontic treatment is available at Cliftonville, with a choice of two different appliances – the Inman aligner and Six Month Smiles, the former being a removable treatment and the latter a fixed brace.
Short-term orthodontics generally deals with issues that concern the ‘social six’ teeth – these are the teeth visible to others when you smile; this type of treatment can make a huge difference to your confidence, although it cannot deal with more severe orthodontic issues.
Inman aligner
The Inman aligner is a removable appliance that works by aligning crowded or protruding front teeth with the help of two opposing spring-loaded aligner bars. This results in continuous and gentle pressure and treatment can be completed in as little as 6-18 weeks. One of the principal benefits of the Inman aligner is the flexibility it offers patients, allowing them to remove the aligner to eat, brush, floss or carry out a presentation at work; the aligners will need to be worn 16-20 hours each day in order for treatment to be a success. This type of treatment is suited to patients who have crowded upper or lower teeth or who have suffered a relapse of their previous orthodontic treatment.
Six Month Smiles
A fixed brace, Six Month Smiles blends a discreet design with state-of-the-art orthodontic technology, gently guiding your teeth into a desired position in as few as 6 months.
Six Month Smiles are modelled on traditional metal brace designs, implementing the same physics to move your teeth but with increased comfort. The brace hardware (brackets and wires) is smaller, taking up less room in your mouth and this hardware is aesthetically appealing; the brackets are clear-coloured and the wires are created to match the shade of your teeth.
Increasing amount of adults having orthodontic treatment
The evolution of these modern brace-types has resulted in a big increase in adults seeking to undergo orthodontic treatment, which was previously only associated with children and young adults. In 2018, 1 in 5 patients undergoing orthodontic treatment is an adult.
