Fixed braces are probably the most popular treatment for straightening uneven or protruding teeth, or for closing gaps.

With a fixed brace, small brackets are bonded to the front surface of the teeth. These brackets are connected with a fine wire and held in place with elastic bands to gently and precisely move the teeth into position. With fixed braces the results are precise and accurate as your orthodontist can have more control over movement than with an aligner or removable brace.
At Cliftonville Dental, we offer a choice of ceramic or metal fixed braces. No matter which option you choose, treatment time is similar which can range from 6 to 30 months. The time taken will depend upon the original position of the teeth and the degree of movement needed – at your consultation, the orthodontist can give you an idea of the time your treatment will take to complete.

What’s the difference between metal and ceramic braces?
There’s very little difference between metal and ceramic braces other than the material the brackets are made with. Whilst metal brackets are strong and stain-resistant, they are visible across the surface of the teeth. If you choose ceramic braces, the brackets are tooth-coloured and have a smoother finish to blend in with your teeth, but you have to be more careful about the foods you eat to avoid staining.
Many people opt for ceramic braces because they offer a perfect compromise between visible metal braces and the more modern, discreet alternatives that may not be suitable for everyone.
