Inhalation sedation

We are now offering an alternative form of conscious sedation to patients – even children – who are particularly nervous about their dental treatment.

Inhalation sedation (sometimes called Relative Analgesia) is a safe, effective form of sedation allowing patients to feel relaxed and slightly drowsy, but not asleep.

What is inhalation sedation

Inhalation sedation (sometimes called Relative Analgesia) is an alternative to IV (intravenous) sedation which allows you to feel relaxed and calm, reducing the sense of pain and any worries about dental treatment.

It is sometimes referred to as ‘happy air’ or ‘laughing gas’ and is often used during child birth.

With this technique a combination of nitrous oxide and oxygen is given via a small soft nasal mask. You may feel tingly and warm. You remain conscious, responsive and comfortable throughout your dental appointment.

At the end of the appointment, you breathe normal air, reversing any effects.

Inhalation sedation at Cliftonville Dental is provided by a highly skilled team and is lead by our sedation trained dentist Dr Amita Peet, who has over 20 years of experience treating patients with the use of inhalation sedation. We are one of only a few practices in the county that offer this form of sedation so you can rest assured that you will receive the highest level of care with us.

If you think inhalation sedation would be beneficial to you or your child or if you have any questions regarding inhalation sedation, you can contact us by phone or complete the enquiry form below.
