For patients who are feeling phobic or nervous about their dental treatment we offer safe IV (intravenous) sedation to allow you to remain conscious but feel relaxed during your treatment.
What is Intravenous Sedation?
Intravenous Sedation is a sedative liquid gently injected into the back of the hand via a small plastic canula (The drug used is a Benzodiazepine). It will very quickly make you feel drowsy and pleasantly relaxed, but you will still be able to co-operate with the dentist. Many patients do not remember having the treatment afterwards and say it simply felt as if they went to sleep.
This can help you gain confidence whilst securing good dental health for now and the future.
Is Sedation Safe?
This technique is very safe and you are monitored throughout by Dr Amita Peet and the rest of the qualified team. Amita is one of the most experienced dentists in the county at carrying out Sedation, and to date in her career she has performed over 3000 cases.
Can anyone have Sedation?
An assessment is required to determine a patient’s suitability for sedation as it can depend on several factors, but sedation can be suitable for many patients.
We also offer an alternative form of sedation – Inhalation sedation – for children and nervous patients. If you think sedation would be beneficial to you or your child or if you have any questions regarding sedation you can contact us by phone or complete the enquiry form below.
What our patients say:
“I am a nervous patient when it comes to anything more than a simple dental check-up, so I asked my dentist to refer me to Cliftonville as I wanted to be sedated when having a troublesome wisdom tooth removed. The team at Cliftonville are wonderful – so friendly and polite and really helped to calm my nerves. I had my wisdom tooth removed yesterday and I don’t remember anything after the IV cannula being inserted! (Well done to Amita for getting the cannula in as I have rubbish veins!). They allowed my partner in the room as I was being sedated and as soon as they were done (10 minutes later) he came back into the room to see me. Day 2 and I have no pain, just very mild stiffness in my jaw.
I highly recommend Cliftonville Dental for anyone, especially if you’re nervous patient. They don’t judge you at all, and everything is done at your pace. Thank you for making me feel so welcome & listened to! I will be returning if I need any further dental work done ☺️ ”

“Brought my son for teeth extraction. Having tried at his usual dentist to extract the teeth and him reacting and passing out, our practice manager managed to find Dr Amita Peet. She was absolutely amazing, talked through the sedation procedure with him at our first meeting and the anxiety that he had. On the day of extractions he arrived very nervous and worried. We were taken straight in and Dr Amita just got on with the procedure. He can’t really remember what happened but certainly has a positive end to the months of trying to extract teeth in preparation for a brace. Would thoroughly recommend for any children that need teeth taking out when sedation is the next step. ”
