At Cliftonville Dental we pride ourselves on producing natural looking results for our patients whether it’s with teeth whitening or anti-wrinkle treatments – we want your friends to say, “You look great” rather than, “Have you had some work done?”

Dermal fillers are a great way to look younger as they can plump up your skin, smooth away wrinkles and fill out deep lines to restore your natural contours and give you a fresher appearance. They work by replacing the collagen lost due to natural ageing and skin damage from sun exposure, smoking, air pollution and stress. They are made from hyaluronic acid – a natural substance found in the body, which attracts water to the skin and plumps it up. Over time the amount of hyaluronic acid in our body depletes, causing fine lines to appear, particularly around the nose, mouth, lips, cheeks and forehead.

How do dermal fillers work?

Essentially dermal fillers work as ‘top-up’ temporary fillers, and they are injected in small controlled doses just under the surface of the skin using an ultrafine needle – common areas are the peri-oral lines between the middle of the nose and the middle of the top lip, the nose to mouth lines on the outside of the mouth, and the mouth to chin lines underneath the bottom lip. The effects are immediate and, depending on the type of dermal filler used, the results last approximately six to nine months. The procedure usually takes about 30 minutes and you can leave the clinic as soon as you are ready, returning to day-to-day activities straight away, although you may experience slight swelling or bruising to the area being injected, which typically lasts no longer than 48 hours. The cost varies according to the number of facial areas treated, but as a guide dermal fillers start from £295.

Why choose a dentist for dermal fillers?

Demand for non-surgical facial aesthetic treatments is growing rapidly and patients naturally prefer to be treated in a clinical environment by a healthcare professional they know they can trust. The facial aesthetics team at Cliftonville Dental is the obvious choice for people wanting to look younger in Northamptonshire because our staff are dentists who have qualified in dermal fillers after training in proper injection techniques from the beginning of their careers, and they have acquired an excellent understanding of facial dynamics though their dental work. Because the effects are temporary, dermal fillers are a great introduction to cosmetic treatments and, performed regularly, they will help to replenish the moisture in the skin, preserving your youth and increasing your confidence.

Frequently asked questions

Which parts of my face can be enhanced?

  • Nose to mouth lines: ageing lines around the mouth that can be softened or eradicated with dermal fillers include the smoker or lipstick bleeding line and the wrinkle around the lips, drooping mouth corners, the Marionette line (going down from the mouth corners towards the chin), the nose to mouth lines (known as the nasolabial fold), and wrinkles at the lower cheek and chin.
  • Cheek and chin: either to improve definition over the cheek bones, lift the mid-face as part of a co-ordinated facial rejuvenation treatment plan, or restore lost facial volume in the cheeks and chin.
  • Frown line: dermal fillers can be effective at treating vertical glabellar lines if they are visible when you are not frowning. These lines become more prominent with age and treating them results in a more rested, approachable and fresher appearance.

What is injected?

We use hyaluronic acid, a substance found throughout the body as well as in most other living organisms, which gives skin elasticity and volume. Ours is made in a laboratory and does not contain human or animal matter.

How long does it take?

The procedure usually takes about 30 minutes and you can leave the clinic as soon as you are ready, returning to day-to-day activities straight away.

The results are immediate and last from six to nine months.

Is it painful?

Not really but as with all injections some discomfort may be felt temporarily at the injection site. Topical anaesthetic will be applied to help prevent any discomfort.

Are there any side effects?

You may experience slight swelling or bruising to the area being injected, which typically lasts no longer than 48 hours.

Are dermal fillers suitable for everyone?

No, not for pregnant or breastfeeding women – hyaluronic acid has not been tested for safety in pregnancy or nursing.
